Ryan Broadhead was born to Richard and Karen Broadhead on December 26, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah. His family moved several times, but he ultimately called Payson home before settling in Santaquin with his wife and children.

Ryan had a sharp sense of humour—sometimes inappropriate but always contagious. Even in school, his teachers found it hard to discipline him because they couldn’t help but laugh at his jokes.

A man of many talents, Ryan was incredibly creative. He loved sketching, designing tattoos, and always had a new project in the works.

He was also an athlete, excelling in soccer, wrestling, and even earning the title of pogo stick champion in fifth grade.

Ryan’s true passion was the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, rock climbing, hiking, and scouting—eventually earning his Eagle Scout rank. Later in life, he took up hunting, further deepening his love for nature.

After graduating from Payson High School in 2014, Ryan briefly joined the workforce before deciding to pursue law enforcement.

He graduated from POST in July 2018 and worked as a corrections officer with the Utah Department of Corrections before transitioning to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office in 2020.

At the county jail, Ryan was a respected and valued team member. He served on the FTO crew, was part of the DRT team, and was a certified instructor.

His ability to train and mentor new officers left a lasting impact, with many expressing gratitude for his guidance.

Ryan’s wife, McKenzie, their children, Liam and Sophia, his parents, Richard and Karen Broadhead, and his brothers, Jacob (Emilie) Broadhead and Karsen Broadhead, survive him.
