Alys Rivers Son’s Fate As A Potential Heir Remains A Mystery

She becomes Prince Aemond Targaryen's bedmate and gets pregnant, allegedly to have a son.

“House of the Dragon” season two, episode three introduces a new character, Alys Rivers, who will be instrumental in the future.

Key Takeaways

  • Alys Rivers, a mysterious new character, is introduced in “House of the Dragon” season 2, episode 3.
  • In George R.R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood,” Alys plays a significant role in the upcoming “Dance of the Dragons” conflict.
  • The fate of Alys Rivers’ son remains a mystery in both the show and source material.

Alys Rivers is a resident of Harrenhal and is introduced in the show as a mysterious woman who prophesies Daemon Targaryen’s d*ath.

In George R.R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood,” she is a healer who can see future visions. Later, she becomes Prince Aemond Targaryen’s bedmate and gets pregnant, allegedly to have a son.

Alys asserts that her son is the child of Aemond Targaryen, making him a potential heir to the Iron Throne.

After the war, she takes control of Harrenhal with a group of outlaws, using her son’s claim to challenge King Aegon III’s rule.

In addition to that, whispers circulate that Alys harbors a dragon within Harrenhal, adding weight to her son’s claim and her own power.

Fire and Blood” doesn’t provide closure on what happens to this would-be claimant to the throne.

While the show may diverge from the source material, several potential outcomes exist for Alys Rivers’ son.

The Fate Remains A Mystery

There are a few fan theories and speculations, but since the book Fire and Blood 2 has yet to be released, we cannot confirm her son’s fate.

A fan writes on Reddit,

When Aemond died Alys Rivers was pregnant, She was over 40 at the time and there was no maester or midwife that witnessed the birth of the boy she gave claimed was Aemond’s son. She also claimed that her and Aemond had married but there is no proof of any marriage. We never got a description of the boy in Fire and Blood if I recall correctly. Alys Rivers and her son ruled over Harrenhal until 151 AC presumably. The boy would’ve been about 20 when Harrenhal got new rulers.
I know that there have already been a few post about Aemonds “son” but I really hope we get more information about Alys Rivers and Aemond’s “son” in Fire and Blood 2 when it ever comes out 🙏😭

Another one adds,

The fact that he could be an ancestor to the Stark children (except Jon) is an amusing idea.

The third says,

This was left unanswered for a reason. Couple that with the fact that Viserys told Alicent his dream of a son wearing the conqueror’s crown show there is something there that GRRM is telling us. There is something to that son.

Similarly, one fan theory suggests,

Presumably, there was some sort of insurrection which had to be put down. The son was either sent to the Citadel, the Wall, or the executioner’s block. My guess, though, is that he was sent to the Wall since he was probably still a minor.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Alys Rivers is portrayed by actress Gayle Rankin in “House of the Dragon.”
  • The character’s introduction in the show differs slightly from her appearance in “Fire and Blood.
