Giving thanks today for the life and witness of a beloved child of God, the Rev. Dr. Justin Gilreath. The Buncombe Street and Greenville community are grappling with this sudden and heavy loss. Called to a life of ministry and service to others, I find a little bit of peace in knowing that Justin now rests with Jesus, as a faithful servant who played a pivotal role in the lives and spiritual journeys of so many. He was a friend to all, someone I could spar with over theology, laugh with, and who counseled me countless times. To Jenny, Meakin, and Griffin— precious ones, may God hold you tightly as you grieve. We sit with you in the stillness of suffering, and pray ceaselessly for God to wrap you in peace, love, and comfort. To my Buncombe Street friends, I’m lifting you all up as you gather this morning for worship and prayer. May Justin’s memory be a blessing to all of us.

Please pray for the people of Buncombe Street Methodist Church in the wake of the death of our beloved Senior Minister, the Reverend Doctor Justin Gilreath. We are utterly bereft. May God cling tightly to and comfort Justin’s wife, Jenny, and their two beautiful young daughters. There are no words to describe the depth of our collective loss. Justin loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, and soul. May his soul rest in God’s most perfect peace. And May he Rise in Glory. We will see you again at the River that runs by the throne of God, Justin. Your absence from us will be indescribably painful until we see you again. Rest in Light Perpetual. You’ve now seen the very face of God who you’ve loved and served so faithfully. Your faith will inspire your flock and will stay with us until we see you again. Thank you for loving all of us.
