49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, on set filming a John Deere commercial, spotted a coyote and loudly alerted everyone.

His quick action potentially saved her and her 90-pound Doberman, Hiwa, from a dangerous situation. Since that time, she hasn’t been publicly seen.

In 2022, Sara Donchey returned to KPIX to anchor the 11 p.m. newscast, the station where she started her career as a production assistant after college.

Sara, who was known for sketching editorial cartoons for SF State’s student newspaper a decade ago, now co-anchors the nightly newscast with fellow alum Ryan Yamamoto at CBS affiliate KPIX.

Sara Donchey’s Career Path: From SF State To KPIX

Sara Donchey grew up in Los Angeles County and completed her Print and Online Journalism degree at San Francisco State University.

She served as the online managing editor of SF State’s student-produced Golden Gate Xpress and as the community manager for Y-Combinator’s NOWBOX.

Moreover, Sara also served as the paper’s Online Managing Editor and Editorial Cartoonist while writing news and sports reports.

She joined KPIX after working for several years as a reporter and anchor at CBS2 and KCAL9.
