It may come as a surprise to his fans that Wentworth is openly gay and does not have a partner.

Reflecting on this, one of his supportive fans commented,

“Just read that Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield) is gay and half Black. I love him even more!”

Wentworth, who starred in five seasons of “Prison Break,” announced his departure via two poignant Instagram posts addressing his sexuality and future in acting.

In an Instagram post, he stated, “I’m out. Of PB. Officially.”

He added,

“I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told). So… no more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons… I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry.”

Following this, Sarah Wayne Callies, Miller’s leading lady, posted a message expressing her support for his decision.

Five years after denying his sexuality to InStyle magazine in 2007, Wentworth Miller came out as gay in August 2013.

He made headlines by publicly coming out and taking a stand against Russia’s anti-gay legislation, refusing to attend the St. Petersburg International Film Festival in an open letter.

Since then, he has become a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and representation.

Regarding his personal life, he once disclosed that he tried to end his life “more than once” during his youth because of the immense struggle of concealing his sexual identity.

Miller, now 52, revealed that his first sui*ide attempt occurred when he was 15 years old. He said,

The first time I tried to kill myself I was 15. I waited until my family went away for the weekend and I was alone in the house, and I swallowed a bottle of pills. I don’t remember what happened over the next couple of days, but I’m pretty sure come Monday morning I was on the bus back to school pretending everything was fine.

He also mentioned that he hid his homosexuality from the public for a long time out of fear that it would damage his acting career.
