Vic Hughes’ Emotional Breakdown: What’s Next For The Troubled Station 19 Firefighter?

Stop it! Don’t tell me we have to wait three more weeks for the next episode of Station 19. We want to know what happened to Vic Hughes. Is she alright?

We are sure all of you had the same thing in mind after episode 5 of ABC’s hit series Station 19.

God, that was such a good episode, but it just acts as a reminder that this is the last season of the popular sitcom.

So, before it ends, let’s talk about our very own Vic Hughes and what caused her recent emotional breakdown.

Key Takeaways:

  • Vic Hughes has been struggling with deep emotional turmoil, becoming increasingly disconnected and numb towards her teammates and duties.
  • Vic’s outburst at the mayor has put her job in jeopardy, and the showrunners hint that her “bottom” may not have been reached yet.
  • Fans of Vic should brace themselves, as her future with Station 19 appears uncertain and the next episode may be very difficult for her character.

Warning: From here on, we will be giving a lot of spoilers. So, if you haven’t checked the recent episodes yet, do check it out first.

What Was Happening With Vic In Episode 4?

Before discussing the recent episode, let’s do a quick recap of Vic’s role in Trouble Man.

In episode 4, the fierce firefighter was already acting gloomy and sad. She looked as if she would snap at any moment.

At the start, we saw Theo trying to apologize to her for hooking up with Kate.

On the other hand, Vic kept on ignoring him, but when he finally got on her nerves, she screamed at him in front of the whole squad.

This incident made everyone know that Theo hooked up.

After hearing about the incident, Vic’s best friend Travis got mad at her for not telling him.

However, throughout the episode, Travis is concerned about her and wants to be there for her, but she won’t open up to him either.

Furthermore, at one point in time, Vic told Kate that she felt dead inside.

While the rest of the firefighters are out on a chaotic and traumatic call, Vic accidentally sleeps through it back at the station, further hinting that something is very wrong with her mental state.

Vic Hughes Got Disconnected From The Team In The Episode 5

From the start of this episode, Vic acts numb and disconnected from the team.

The condition was so bad that she didn’t even react when Crisis One got canceled, to which she had given heart and soul to run this program.

Later in the episode, we learn that Theo resigned from the fire department, and again, she acts as if she doesn't care.

It seemed as if the previous shift’s traumatic events, where they could not save a trapped man, had taken a massive toll on Vic.

However, she finally snaps at Mayor when she sees him doing a victory lap at the Space Needle Fire.

She calls him out in front of the media. Captain Andy sends her home from the shift to bring the situation back into control.

After a few moments, we learn that Theo wants to console her, but Vic doesn’t answer any of his calls.

She seems to be isolating herself and not trying to engage with anyone from her team.

But hey, you gotta feel bad for Vic, as she missed the time when the team finally started getting along.

Is Hughes Going To Leave The Station 19?

Okay, now you guys know what’s going on in the story. But what’s fascinating is what’s gonna happen to Vic now.

Though we don’t want that to happen, it seems like by the end of this series, she might be leaving the team for good.

However, Zoanne Clack, the co-producer of the show has given us a rough idea about what’s gonna happen next.

In the interview with The Wrap, Clack said:

Now she[Vic] has to try to keep her job; that’s the first thing.

Another showrunner, Peter Paige, said:

And I’ll say this: Vic may not have hit her bottom just yet.

Both of their statements indicate that the next episode will be brutal for you if you are a huge fan of Vic.

So, don’t be shocked if Vic leaves the fire department for good.
