Barack and Michelle Obama’s Netflix Comedy-Thriller Bodkin Review- Is It Any Good?

As the plot unfurls, they uncover several interlinked mysteries that need solving.

Want to be surprised?

It’s been a while since I’ve been ungripped by an opening episode of a Netflix series. At first glance, Bodkin lacked that exciting factor that makes anyone binge-watch anything on the screen.

However, I had to watch the whole thing because of my professional duty. And imma be honest with you; you will love it if you get through that “upgripping” set of stories.

Synopsis
A group of podcasters set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic Irish town. But when they start to pull the strings, they find a story much bigger and stranger than they could have imagined.

First hour in the dull company of a darkly comic thriller shot, and you are all set for the greener side.

By the third, the limited series finds its groove, and that first hour turns out to be an investment worth making.

What’s The Plot?

The series opens with Gilbert Power (Will Forte), the show’s protagonist, stating, “When I started this podcast, I didn’t expect to solve anything. I didn’t expect it to change my life.

This sets the stage for the rollercoaster that unfolds later on.

Gilbert Power has had one hit documenting his wife’s cancer, and now he is looking to move into the true-crime genre. In addition, he wants to explore his Irish roots.

In search of his true identity, he heads to the small town of Bodkin in west Cork, where three people went missing from the annual Samhain festival 20 years ago.

But he needs a team to do it.

He then takes his young researcher, Emmy Scissor (Robyn Cara), with him. The team of two is reluctantly joined by Dove (Siobhán Cullen), who is going through her own issues.

As the team of amateur detectives continues to dig deeper for answers, they garner unwanted attention from the locals. Some are fans of the podcast, while some are furious with the new visitors.

Despite this, they are determined with their pursuits.

Even though Dove and the two start off on the wrong foot, they eventually grow to care for one another.

And unsurprisingly, their interviewing and interrogating techniques work in the team’s favor.

As the plot unfurls, they uncover several interlinked mysteries that need solving.

Final Verdict

If you are the kind of person who likes fast-paced shows, you might get bored within the first two episodes.

However, as mentioned before, you will appreciate the series if you sit through the bland storytelling in the beginning.

I definitely enjoyed the series. Worth watching!!

Skip Or Stream?

My take, definitely stream it.
